Esbjerg’s songwriters have been releasing singles and albums at a rapid pace in recent years, touring and receiving strong reviews, awards, and nominations.

That’s why we are once again hosting a Songwriter’s Circle during Esbjerg Festuge, shining a spotlight on what a group of local songwriters have to offer.

The event first took place during last year’s Festuge and was incredibly well‑attended, so we hope to repeat the success.

A songwriter’s circle is a well‑known format from places like Nashville and Tønder Festival. Each songwriter takes turns presenting a song they have written themselves. The audience is treated to a concert featuring many different songs from artists across genres – and also gets a glimpse into the songwriting room and the stories behind the music.

This concert features a group of independent artists from Esbjerg, each offering exciting original music in their own genre. All with roots in the Esbjerg soil – way out west.

The concert features music from:

**JACOB**

Jacob Elbæk Jensen has spent the past 25 years as a sideman and guitarist in numerous Esbjerg‑based bands. In 2021, he stepped forward as singer and songwriter in *Jacob and the Melody Drivers*, writing personal songs inspired by artists like Tom Petty and Jason Isbell.

**ANJA MØLLERSKOV**

With roots in West Jutland and a musical life branching in many directions, Anja Møllerskov has written songs and performed in projects such as *Moellerskov* and *Gravel Roads*. In her new musical project *Håndholdt*, her songs unfold in Danish for the first time, exploring themes of closeness, reflection, and (almost) adulthood. She is currently in the studio with her band, and at this event she will present the songs together with pianist Helene Bak.

**MARTIN MAJGAARD**

Martin Majgaard is a Danish singer‑songwriter with a unique talent for capturing the small moments of everyday life and turning them into songs that are both humorous and deeply relatable.

**SOFIE DREJER**

Sofie Drejer creates an intense and honest atmosphere with her indie‑folk sound. She sings about the limbo between anxiety and hope in its rawest form, touching listeners right where it both hurts and heals. Inspired by Joni Mitchell and Ben Howard, she shapes a melodic and intimate expression with just her voice and guitar. Sofie aims to break taboos around mental vulnerability and create genuine human connection through her music.

**MAGNOLIA SHADE**

Where warm Americana tones meet Nordic melancholy. Magnolia Shade consists of guitarist, singer, and songwriter Jan Kølle and vocalist Susanne Kristensen. In the meeting between Jan’s melodies and Susanne’s voice, a special tension arises – a soundscape of presence, vulnerability, and strength. Together they create a universe inspired by country, Americana, blues, and the classic singer‑songwriter tradition. Their songs explore hope and doubt, fear and longing, the fragility and power of love – and the search for footing in a world that isn’t always simple.

**GLIMTVIS – SOM ER VÆRTER DENNE AFTEN**

GLIMTVIS is Rikke Egholm Ravn and Rasmus Pedersen – two experienced musicians who should, by all accounts, have found their place in adult life, but who struggle with exactly that – adulthood and all the things one “should” have figured out. Their personal and relatable songs speak to anyone who also finds “should” a bit difficult.

**All artists bring original music and the stories behind their songs.**

Experience a concert full of diverse expressions and narratives – and step inside the stories behind the music. Esbjerg Musikhus – Foyerscenen – Tuesday 16. June at 05.00 PM. Free entry.
